Special Info  Obituary Carmen Rosalita Pittman, affectionately known as “Nana” On Monday, July 3, 2017 Carmen Rosalita Pittman affectionately known as “Nana” departed peacefully to join her Heavenly Father. She was a fighter to the end battling with health issues over the past few years. Carmen was born on May 4, 1928 to Allen Haywood Connolly and Mary Hill in Kingston, Jamaica. Carmen was the last survivor of her four siblings: Rossford Connolly, Eric Connolly, Conchita Taylor, and Cavelia Hardy. Carmen was educated in Kingston, Jamaica and was the first of her siblings to migrate to the United States at the young age of 18. She built a successful career as a watchmaker with Seiko for over 30 years until she retired. Carmen was married to Willard Joseph Pittman Sr. (deceased). From this union came three sons Allen Haywood, Willard Joseph Jr. "Monk” (deceased), and Lawrence David. Carmen and her family lived on 168th street in the Bronx. In the early 1980’s she moved to Co-op City where she lived for the next 40 years. She had two dogs that she cared for and loved dearly named “Puff” and “Susie”. Carmen became a loyal member of the Bronx Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bronx, New York where she established a special and close friendship with Shirley, Dawn, and Lorna. She also had a dear friend and neighbor, Ms. Mackey, who was the best neighbor and friend one could wish for. Ms Mackey stood by her for many years and Nana loved her dearly. Carmen was very friendly and no one was a stranger to her. She was described as a “generous and selfless giver”. She loved to make others smile. She could make anyone feel like they were worth a million dollars. Carmen loved listening to Reggae music and singing to Al Green. She also loved dancing. Carmen was exceptionally stylish and loved shopping at her favorite stores Lord & Taylor, Macy’s and Alexandra’s. Carmen was no stranger to the New York City transit system and could be seen hopping on and off buses and trains in her wool coat, wool beret and her high heels. Her summers were spent travelling with her grandchildren to her native country Jamaica, Orchard beach, and Rye Play land just to name a few places. Carmen loved spending time with her family and cherished all family gatherings. She wanted the best for her family. She was a great cook and some of her favorite dishes to prepare were Jamaican style curry chicken with dumplings, rice and peas, and oxtails, just to name a few. She took joy in making cakes and was well known for her delicious carrot cakes. Nana’s loving memory will always be cherished by her two sons; Allen and Lawrence, five grandchildren; Terrayne, Ulyricia, Willard Joseph III, Christine, and Angela and two great grandchildren; Carmen and Harmony and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives and longtime friends. We love you “Nana” and you will be greatly missed.
