mama, even though you weren't my great grandmother by blood, you never made me feel any different. it is an honor to be able to tell others that i have three great-grandmas. you helped to raise me as if i was. the unconditional love and support you bestowed upon me will never be forgotten. you always listened when i needed someone to talk to and gave me great advice. you truly took care of us all. i have always said that you had the secret to living such a long life and i was going to try to get it from you one day. it saddens my heart that you're no longer with us, but it brings joy knowing that we are all blessed to call you our matriarch. our mama. we love you. i pray that you continue to guide us all. love, kamisha and christian

to marina and family our hearts go out to you in this time of sorrow. we know how deeply mama loved all of you and how much you loved her in return. but, even in this moment of sadness we can rejoice, because hers was a life well lived. she was strong-willed and resiliant, yet gentle and loving when needed. i know that she is resting in the comfort of her creator. mama fought the good fight, mama has won the race and she always held strong to her faith. michelle, michael & the joseph family

mama always greeted us with a warm smile and she never forgot a face or a name. a highly spiritual and wise woman, mama was someone you could seek out for advice and pray with just the same. i still remember sitting with her and my daughter yolanda, we would pray the rosary’ together and later listen to some of her life experiences and wisdom. i always remember her speaking so fondly of her grandchildren. she adored marina and all of her loved ones. mama was always easygoing and a joy to be around. i am happy that i was able to know her. may the lord have peace with her soul and grant her eternal rest.

i want to give all my condolences to this loving lady. i knew mama from since i was a very young and she treated me with all love and like i was her own. when i heard the news,it was very disheartening for me, to know that someone very special to me, someone i grew up with in my life has passed. she was known for bringing light to the party and despite of her age she always made sure that everyone was happy and well. all the memories of mama are precious and will never be forgotten.

mama is and will always be our matriarch. when i think of mama i think of my grandparents. i think of a simpler time in my life. a time where i was naive of adulthood’s trials and tribulations. church was the place to be. mama, grandma, and granddaddy always had their v.i.p. section in the front. every now and then mama’s feisty spirit would present itself. mama did not hold her tongue. she said what she wanted when she wanted to, even at the priests’ expense. if the priest was a bit long winded the whole church was going to hear it from her. she sang when she felt like singing. it could be during prayer, it could be during a sermon. she had a knack for quieting the “silence” of church. her voice had a certain power to it. grandma would be right there as her personal side-kick. there was not a quiet bone in their bodies. mama could say a thousand words a minute, and suck her teeth all while doing so. some folks may have a hard time understanding what she was saying, but not my family. there are numerous characteristics mama had that trickled down to my mother marina brown. mama was her grandmother. she loves her so much. she goes above and beyond for her family even when we don’t deserve it. she bought food for mama, prayed for her, held events for her. she made sure mama knew she was loved. i always want mama to know that she is loved forever and always. i know in my heart of hearts that mama is in heaven with my dad and grandparents. she was able to be here for so many grandchildren and great grandchildren. it hurts to know she had to move on during this time but it also gives me great comfort knowing she will be welcomed with open arms. mama is a first ballot heaven inductee. make no mistake about it. mama, grandma, and granddaddy will once again have front row v.i.p. in god’s paradise. a place where she will feel no pain. i love you florence thibou. till we meet again. god be with you, till we meet again.

oh my mama. always so honest and true. for the nine years living under the same roof i’ve learned and gained so many things from you. the importance of prayer, bathing my skin, brushing my teeth. basic everyday necessities. even when i had my own flaws you’d pray for me anyway. you feared no one but god, always told it like it was. which made us love you even more. god has chosen you now my angel. rest in heaven lovely, we’ll meet again in paradise.
