Joyce Gwendolyn Smalling was born on March 17th 1937, to the union of Luther Martin Dobbs (29) and Hilda Powell (28) in Mason Run, Coleyville district of Manchester Parish, Jamaica West Indies.

Joyce accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Coleyville S.D.A. Church. She received her formal education at Pike All Age School in Manchester. After graduation she moved to Kingston helping families and caring for children. Additionally, she was employed as a dressmaker and spent many years in this vocation until immigrating to the United Stated in 1970.

Joyce and Raphael Smalling were married in the Fall 1971 in Hoboken, NJ. To this union was born two children Hopeton, and Nicole. To support the family, she completed Allied Health Careers, Medical and Dental Assistants School in the Bronx, NY. As a qualified Nurse’s Aide, she worked with Visiting Nursing Service caring for the elderly. She loved to read the Bible, cook, play dominoes, and spend quality time with friends and family. She was a dedicated member of the South Ozone Park S.D.A. Church for over 44 years. She loved to serve the lord and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone until her last breath.

Joyce Smalling departed this life on Friday, October 7th 2022 at 4:50am. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Clanson, Easton, and sister Carmen.

She leaves to Cherish her memory: her children, Hopeton, and Nicole Smalling (NY). Stepchildren, Teddy (JA), Garnet (KS), and Mark (JA); sister, Cislyn Francis; brother-in-law; Leeford Francis; Cousin, Cymoy Freeman. Nieces, Charmaine, Monica, Elaine, Marcia, Lezzie, Chris; Nephews, Patrick, Lloyd, Neville, Tony, Dalton, Neil, Pete.
Grandchildren, Jaymen (NY), Khristopher (NC), Lloyd (FL), Elizabeth (NY); Michael (NJ), Zoe (JA), Garnetta (KS), and Colette (KS). Great Grandchildren, Lucas (NY), James (FL), Ruby (FL); PJ (KS), Jaia (KS), Josiah (KS), Aasiyah (KS), Ayonna (KS). Great Great Grandchildren, Aenerys (MD); and a host of other relatives, church family, and friends.
