Special Info  Vibert Mortimer Yaw, late of 16 New Street, East Orange, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 23rd, 2023 after a period of illness. Vibert Yaw famously had two birthdays, July 16th, 1937 (date of his birth) and July 17th, 1937 (date of the registration of his birth). He was the first child born to Arthur Ivanhoe Yaw and Gladys Muriel Kitt who took his role of big brother seriously. His siblings are the late Wilfrid Yaw, Constance Spencer, the late Patricia Kendall, the late Elaine Heber, Valerie Yaw and the late Everton Yaw. Fondly referred to as “Gentleman Jim”, Vibert was a peace-loving young man who met, fell in love with and married fellow student teacher, Ovril Amelia Richmond in 1960. Their marriage produced four children, Vibart Gilmore Reginald, Volda Benita, Yolande Fitzgerald Francis and Lyndon Arthur George. Vibert Yaw also “fathered” many foster children in New Jersey and adopted five. He was the grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of two. Vibert Yaw had a passion for teaching and the English language. He obtained his Bachelor in Education from the UWI Jamaica, studied Teaching of English as a Foreign Language in Australia then pursued a Bachelor of Education in Teaching of the English Language at the University of Guyana. Educators par excellence, Vibert and Ovril's careers led them and their children across all counties of Guyana: Essequibo, Demerara and Berbice, teaching and shaping young minds wherever they were stationed. Vibert served in various positions within the Ministry of Education, Guyana, from senior teaching posts to Education Officer, Senior Education Officer and Chief Education Officer (Ag.). He also served as an advisor to the Prime Minister. This passion for educating continued when he moved to the United States of America even into his retirement. Vibert will be remembered for, among other things, respect for elders, his proud stature, self-discipline, especially punctuality and style. He placed great value on family, bona fide friends, his Masonic brethren, and ultimately respect for God our Creator, the Good, Faithful Father of us all.
